About / Introduction Introduction | Advertising / Sponsorship | Contact Us Archéire [derived from architecture - eireann] is a collection of web sites focused on architecture in Ireland. It is intended to heighten awareness, and to foster debate both within Ireland and internationally. It is a diverse, growing collection of sites, with emphasis ranging from history and preservation to current architectural developments and issues. Archéire was started in early 1997 although some of the websites have been in operation since mid 1996. The site is developed and administered by Paul Clerkin.
Currently Archéire hosts the web sites of four major Irish organisations - the Irish Architectural Archives, the Architectural Association of Ireland, the Irish Landscape Institute, and the Irish Georgian Society.
In addition the site contains original research and content dealing with the architecture and buildings of Ireland, architects Michael Scott and Kevin Roche, and designer Eileen Gray as well as a wealth of information on architects, awards, Irish architecture sites and competitions.
Archeire has won many awards for its content and community, including two Golden Spiders (the Oscars of the Irish Internet world): one in 1997 for Best Non-Commercial site; and one in 2000 for Best Online Community / Special Interest. It has also been a runner up in 1998. In addition to the two Golden Spiders, Archeire has been singled out by many newspapers and journals including Architectural Review, AJ, The Irish Times, the BBC, the New York Times, The Guardian, and Yahoo.com as a Site of the Week.
