Stan Allen is an architect working in New York, and
Assistant Professor of Architecture at Columbia University. After working
for Richard Meier in New York and Rafael Moneo in Spain, he began working
independently in 1989. Parallel to this practical work, a body of theoretical
and critical writings have been developed. In 1988 he was winner of the
Young Architects Competition at the Architectural League of New York. In
1994 he was selected for the "Emerging Voices" series, and in
1995 for "40 Under 40".

SHAY CLEARY

Born in Cork in 1951, graduated from UCD in 1974,
Shay Cleary commenced private practice in 1977 having worked in Paris and
London for Marcel Breuer and Candilis Josic and Woods. He received the AAI
Downs Medal for work to the Point Depot in 1989 and an AAI Award for the
Museum of Modern Art at Kilmainham Hospital in 1992. Member of Group 91,
Shay Cleary designed the Arthouse in the Curved Street - Temple Bar. Recent
Projects include the transformation of Beggars Bush Barracks and the competition
entry to the extension of the National Gallery.

Kenneth Frampton is Ware professor of Architecture at Columbia University. He studied architecture at the AA in London, and has worked as an architect in the UK, Israel, and the US. He has written extensively, and contributed to numerous journals internationally. His publications include: Modern Architecture: A Critical History; Modern Architecture 1851 to 1945; American Masterworks (Rizzoli, 1995); and Studies in Tectonic Culture (MIT Press, 1995).
