BUILDING VISIT

DE BLACAM & MEAGHER
date: saturday 17th april 1999
time: 12.00 noon
venue: 1 castle street dublin 2
Located at the corner of Castle Street and Werburgh Street - between Dublin Castle and Chrictchurch Cathedral - an existing building has been extended to the built line of castle st and two additional floors added to address this prominent corner site. While the existing building is still visible from the Werburgh St side, a new brick skin is wrapped around from the Castle St side. A dark brick with a 'monk' bond is used, complementing the black flamed granite cladding of the ground floor. This visually reduces the additional height and allows the elevation to read as one piece. The untreated iroko windows soften the elevation, the most visible being the two storey high corner window. The penthouse apartment is designed around the client's specific requirements and the myriad views avaialable from this location and height.
