The Anna Liffey mills, built on the site of an 18th century mill, once belonged to the Shackleton family and are now for sale as a development opportunity. There are no other working mills left in the entire Dublin city or greater Dublin area. Yet here in Lucan is a unique flour mill, operating by water power and in use until last year. All the machinery is intact, all of the two-inch thick floors remain and the stone buildings and miller Georgian house are in good condition. If this complex was to be turned into apartments, it would necessitate the gutting of the buildings and the destruction of not just a unique piece of heritage but the opportunity to provide the people of Dublin and their children with an insight into our industrial past.
