The poet Patrick Kavanagh (1904-67) lived here for a time, and although moving frequently, lived mostly in this area, dubbed ‘Baggottonia’ by his friends. Originally a fine Victorian suburb, many of the larger houses have been removed for office and hotel development in the 1960s. Those office developments are themselves being redeveloped now.
